This just in from main-stream science: exercise makes our brains bigger, and more resistant to dementia.

That’s great news, folks. Scientists used to think we are born with all the brain cells we’ll ever have, but that’s been proven false. If we increase the demands we place on our brain by exercising, it will rise to the challenge by creating new cells (neurons) and new connections (axons and dendrites) so those new cells can communicate with each other.

If you like walking or running, do it for your brain. Like lifting weights? Do that for your brain. Have a favorite sport? Devote more time to it…for your brain.

If you can’t think of a from of exercise you like, try social dancing. It has been shown to do more for your brain than any other form of exercise, and it’s loads of fun, too.
